Kashmiri carpets

Kashmir is heaven on earth, as a king once put it. It brings along with it not only pristine mountains and valleys, but a treat in the form of traditional hand knotted silk carpets, the origins of which go back to the Mughal era. Known for their intricate craftsmanship and delicate handling of the silk fabric, Kashmiri carpets are rare and expensive.

These silk carpets which often take up to a couple of years to make are extremely labour-intensive. Made of about 80% silk, silk carpets see up to 400 knots of silk per square inch! Owning a Kashmiri silk carpet is owning a treasure and something that will see this antique being passed on from generation to generation.
