Sourcing Antiques for the Home

Many antique customers make the error of mis-understanding the method by which antique items are found. Many collectors and dealers waste valuable time looking in places where they think that those items are in great excess. But a real experience of where antiques originate appears to have eluded many well meaning antique dealers and collectors.

If you would like to find fresh-to-the-market antiques and collectibles, you have to go where they're in great excess, and where they originate! Antiques don't orginate at auctions, or at flea markets, or at antique shows. Antiques originate in peoples's houses.

This is an elemental truth for 99% of all antiques that you'll ever see. The other easy fact, is that most antiques that you are most inclined to get a great deal on reside in the houses of people that are older. Younger people don't, as a rule have antiques in the excess that older folks do. Why? Because older folk came from a generation that saved everything, and you may find that an overall majority of the time they have kept it all!

From the 1950's toys in the closet to the old toaster that was simply too good to dump, older people still have the majority of everything they ever owned. Knowing these 2 elemental truths about where antiques originate, begs a large query. Realizing that antiques originate in peoples's houses, and that antiques are most certain to reside in older peoples's houses, where will you be trying to spend a general majority of your prime time? It tooks me years to grasp the following guidelines. To buy more fresh antiques you've got to see more antiques. To see more antiques, you may look at more household accumulations on a consistant basis. To do this, you simply must get into more peoples's homes where the antiques originate.
